Vocal envy

I’m often complimented on my singing voice. That’s nice, but as a listener I am drawn to interesting voices: Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Imogean Heap. But there is one voice, above all the rest – Beth Hart. Some artists sing from their diaphragm and others sing from their very soul. Beth Hart is connected to her voice on such a deep level (in my humble opinion) that she reaches down so deep as to connect with every soul from every past life she’s every had to bring you the emotion across time and space from thousands of years in the past right back to the present. She can pour so more emotion and heart (no pun intended) into one single note than the Beatles, Rage Against the Machine and Aretha Franklin all rolled into one. God Bless Beth Hart. And go pick up “Don’t Explain” – it’s a joy.

Is it sad that I am enjoying commercials more than shows on TV?

Plus, commercials are adding to my music collection if you can believe it. The first time I watched that strange Dior commercial with Charlize Theron walking down the runway after passing Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe I was merely confused. The second, third and twentieth time I saw it during an hour program on TV I couldn’t get the song out of my head! So I googled it and found Heavy Cross by Gossip. A great tune and a fun song to add to my workout playlist!

Good morning everyone. Just a quick note to those of you coming down to the Mall of America this afternoon at 4pm for the Holiday Music Festival. I’ll be singing in the PATIO, which is located just inside Nickelodeon Universe (odd I know…seeing as I’m so good with children ?!?!) Anyway, a little bit of schedule shuffling meant a move from the Rotunda to the Patio. It’s located right by Caribou Coffee on the same side as the log chute. (I think this will win for strangest Anne Deming Website post EVER).

Pistol Annies?

I am intrigued with artists branching out to form random groups with other musicians. I believe Michelle Branch went from solo artist to join forces with Jessica Harp creating the Wreckers and Miranda Lambert now has Pistol Annies with Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley. Good. Music is an open, limitless avenue of creativity. Pop artists can write blues tunes and wrap artists can cover Phil Collins. The more collaboration….the better.

Just confirmed a show for this Saturday at Urban Olive and Vine in Hudson, Wisconsin. I know it’s last minute but last time I played there was snow on the ground and the air was cold enough to freeze your lungs! I can’t wait for a glass of local red wine with some delicious appetizers. I’ll confirm details to the CONCERT page of the website shortly. Hope to see you on Saturday night!

Haven’t blogged in a while (apologies), but I have been writing songs! Most of you are probably up to your eyeballs in facebook photo pokes and therefore haven’t noted my absence.

I’ve reached out to 2 of my favorite sound engineers but we still haven’t aligned schedules to find some recording time. I’m trying – I promise. Hope to see some of you in Mankato this Saturday, June 4th.

Have I confessed my deep fascination with Phil Collins yet? I adore his voice…if I make it to heaven I hope Phil Collins beats me there to welcome Anne Deming with an acapella version of Amazing Grace. He has the voice of an angel and is on my bucket list of artists I hope to see live before I die. Believe it or not, I would pay top dollar for a front row seat at a Phil Collins concert. Honestly.
