If I spend my holiday weekend sculpting bushes with a weedwacker and fighting weeds…can that be considered an artistic endeavor?  My soul feels more like taking the burner man approach but that would be counter productive because I would like to enjoy my home and yard for years to come *sigh* BACK TO WORK!

While making jambalaya this evening I forgot about chopping the jalapeno long enough to blow my nose.  Holy crap my face is on fire and my fingers burn. I am crying. Next time I am sticking to cayenne pepper.

schedule changes. *sigh* oh well.I will be in the states for all of August. I am toying with cover tunes in garage band (lots of fun) and listening to eminem and patty griffin….I wonder if they will ever collaborate ?

I used to sneak into a dance club called the Option. Music was loud, raunchy and industrial; I literally had to be pulled from the club to go home at night. I never drank (underage), frankly I didn’t even interact with other people at the club, I just wanted to throw myself into the experience. (we listened to mostly Paul Simon at home).  Why am I mentioning this now? Well, on Friday night Ground Zero hosted Thrill Kill Kult and Lords of Acid. Mr Manager and I went to check it out.  Strange to hear music from the 90’s and even stranger to see other party-goers in the late 40’s and 50’s rocking out to techno smut.  Fabulous evening though.  Upon reflection though, my weekend doesn’t make a bit of sense. I wore black platform, latex boots with a mini to Friday’s show, woke up on saturday for a late breakfast before catching Toy Story 3 at the Ultrascreen (no I don’t have any children, we just heard it was a good movie) AND IT WAS.  We had a lovely date night at home when Mr. Manager and I made salmon with asparagus and cracked into an “Evil” cabernet (that’s truly the name of the winemaker).  Sleeping in until 10am, we headed out this morning to a lazy sunday brunch around noon.  I can’t figure out where we belong…  Because to cap it all off, I am currently reading Belle DeJour’s diary of an unlikely london call girl AND LOVING IT and now I am off to write some more gospel music.  My husband thinks I need a padded cell. (under consideration).

I am finally getting some much needed pseudo education on home recording.  I am 1000 times more comfortable in front of people with a microphone than behind a sound board hitting the magic red button that means “record”.  Luckily my friend from Allied (who helped with the latest cd release “live”) has agreed to teach me some tools and tactics of the master sound engineer.  Thank god.  I hope he is patient, because I am a garageband idiot. *smile*

Small showing in Mankato this weekend but I absolutely love playing the Coffee Hag.  Thank you to those who came out to hear live music, and especially to all who bought some cds to take home for another listen.  I hope to be back in Southern Minnesota this fall when school is back in session!   I played lots of new stuff (for those of you who missed the show, you’ll have to catch up).

Made it back from a fabulous weekend in southern wisconsin. Saturday is a 2 hour show in Mankato at the Coffee Hag. Great food, drink, ambiance, cool stage….what more could you ask for?!  Hope to see you there. Music starts at 8pm.

Read, swam, slept, ate, wrote, sang, drank.  That about sums it up….

I had to buy an actual book for the first time in almost a year. The kindle has spoiled me rotten. I do love the feel of an actual book though – even though my treadmill prefers the kindle (I’ve tried reading with a normal book while walking at a leisurely pace on the treadmill but only succeeded in slamming myself into a wall with a total lack of grace and a good deal of pain). Jillian Lauren’s memoir “Some girls, my life in a harem” has intrigued me since I read a review thumbing through a random magazine at the doctor’s office. I finally have a copy and once I press the caffeine out of my french press coffee I’ll start enjoying the story. Can’t wait!  Also on today’s agenda is rehearsing music for an upcoming wedding in June, hanging some pictures and grocery shopping. Ahhh the life of a rock star. Exciting isn’t it?

We had delicious sushi this evening and were surprisingly entertained by a strange band comprised of an accordion, stand up bass, clarinet and drummer. They covered the Beatles, Metallica and Judy Garland.  It was perfect. Music is so fabulous. Anytime. Always.
