Singer/songwriter Anne Deming is a Midwest native with a seductive and soulful voice. Deming writes her own music and lyrics, allowing her personal story to truly shine in each album. Her music includes joy, humor, and heartbreak. Although she has an impressive library of recorded music from her two decades of performance, it is truly magical to see her perform live. She loves interacting with an audience and creating an intimate place where performing and listening create a relationship that will stay with you long after a show has ended. Her music spans country, rock, blues and folk and her voice has been poetically praised as “moving gracefully through bluesy growls to clear tender passages”.
Her past albums - Beautifully Scarred, Mulligan and the Riverrock Sessions - all showcase her stunning voice and impressive skill on the guitar. Dash & Temper, released in the fall of 2018 brings us even more insight into the masterful storytelling of this true artist. |
PRESS - ANNE DEMING
Blues has always been a good vehicle for delivering a message of pain and heartache. It’s also been a good vehicle for spawning new ways of doing things, it being the birth place of so many subsequent genres – rock ’n’ roll, rock, punk and everything that followed are all based on its methods. Armed with these two factors Anne Deming builds a warped blues song that stomps confidently and regretfully to its bitter conclusion like a woman scorned. For blues this is, but not in the traditional sense, as Deming draws in garage rock guitar lines, pulsing blasts of raw energy, simple, primal beats and a voice that you are not likely to forget in a hurry. All genres need to move on, stay relevant, bring something new to the musical table and Deming proves that even working within one of the most established ones, and telling the oldest of emotional stories she wanders forward into bright new musical futures with hardly a glance backward to past glories. And on the strength of this dark, tempestuous and sultry track, the next stop is to hunt down the album where it resides, Dash and Temper, and check out what else she has in the musical arsenal.

Midwest Singer-Songwriter Anne Deming is back with a new album, and we’ve teamed up with For Folks Sake to unveil lead single “No Escape”. In our opinion, it’s her strongest work yet, channelling Jack White-esque guitars that perfectly complement her powerful vocals. The eddies of feedback and reverb give the track a dark undercurrent that set’s Deming apart from contemporary folk artists.
Deming is a Midwest native with a seductive and soulful voice. Having written her own music and lyrics, her personal story truly shines in each album. While Deming’s past albums – Beautifully Scarred, Mulligan and the Riverrock Sessions – all showcase her vocals and impressive guitar skills, her new album Dash & Temper brings us even more insight into the masterful storytelling of this true artist. Sonically, structurally, and lyrically, Dash & Temper differs from the singer-songwriter’s previous works. Recorded in Riverrock Studios in Minneapolis, Deming covers all corners of Americana with sassy, high-tempo tracks like Gasoline & Grit to the slower, soulful sounds as heard on Flutter. No matter the pace, Deming manages to stir something up inside you. Although she has an impressive library of recorded music from her two decades of performance, it is truly magical to see her perform live. She loves interacting with an audience and creating an intimate place where performing and listening create a relationship that will stay with you long after a show has ended.

Although she’s trapped, Anne Deming is still on top in ‘No Escape’. The Midwest singer-songwriter’s new single is a voluptuous, powerfully feminine anthem with a suitably captivating music video to match. In the audiovisual experience Deming is presenting, she dances through a farmhouse searching for the exit, but it never seems like she’s not in control. The song itself is a delectable slice of Americana, to boot. Inundated by crunchy guitar riffs and a driving rhythm, the ebb and flow between reverb and feedback that Deming soars between with her resonant vocals exhibits a darker edge to her style than many of the artists inhabiting the same circuit. Thematically, she accepts her flaws but doesn’t miss a beat in taking steps forward to keep in charge, making it clear that she is a force that cannot be silenced or demeaned. Deming’s new album, Dash & Temper, is set to be released sometime this autumn.
- For Folk's Sake by Jonathan Frahm, 26 July, 2018
Anne Deming is among the many acoustic rock/folk artists in the Twin Cities area. Quite honestly, this style is nothing that has not been heard countless times before. To stand out in this genre mostly dominated by solo guitar playing, you need a distinctive, better than average voice. Deming has it and it puts her well above the masses of mediocrity.
Seductive and confessional are the adjectives that come to mind when describing these songs. Dealing with life, love, and accompanying emotions, Deming has a voice that would go over as well as any of the main acts at Lilith Fair. If the “sounds like” comparison must be made, I would say she comes close to a more angelic Natalie Merchant. Standout tracks include the blues oriented “Not The One” and “Talk Me Down”, a track that nails the power and delicateness of Deming’s voice and lyrics alike. Saving, arguably, the best for last, “Bring Me Happiness” is a gospel-flavored number sung a cappella. Kept tastefully short, it is a good sounding disc.
So what do Natalie Merchant and Sarah MacLachlan have that Deming doesn’t? A major label record deal. . .that’s pretty much it.

We have found something perfect here…this genuine woman has filled her CD with amazingly honest lyrics and insight into her life. The CD is all-acoustic, just Anne and her guitar spilling words from her lips that seem to come straight from her soul. “Good Enough,” “The Perfect Girl,” and “Distraction” are just some of the songs on this CD which open up a whole other realm of speaking your mind. “Good Enough” in particular touched me because of the times where I’ve felt that my best just wasn’t good enough for the ones I love. She doesn’t go for anything fancy on this CD, no back up band or complicated notes, chords, or obscure lyrics just an honest CD with a lot of heart. Each song is a must listen because each word is a closer look into Anne Deming as a human being.

This is a beautiful record. On this release she ventures into a fuller sound, producing it herself with the help of Jon Koehler, “manager plus”. Anne’s voice is incredible and would sound fantastic all by itself, but the added aural adventures make the songs rich and full. Her beautiful songwriting returns. She covers sadness, hope, and love so hard it hurts. Stand out tracks for me are: “Someone to Believe”: what a great way to start out the record. “Lullaby” is just a gorgeous song. It reminds me of early Sarah McLachlan. “My Baby” Here Anne branches out with a nice techno/trip hoppy feel. “Softest Touch” features Anne on piano and her voice is crystal clear. Stunning. And don’t forget to let the CD run…you’ll find a nice hidden surprise. Though it has a different feel, fans of “Beautifully Scarred” will not be disappointed. has an incredibly strong voice that will give you chills and she writes wonderful songs that will take you through the gamut of emotions.

Don’t arrive late, as the best may be over by the time the headliner hits the stage. . . .
Deming, a relative newcomer to the scene, posses a gift for soaring melodies and a voice which moves gracefully through bluesy growls to clear tender passages. If she capitalizes on the promise of her debut, Beautifully Scarred, Deming will soon be a fixture among local singer-songwriters

Anne Deming hits the ground running with her debut CD, “Beautifully Scarred”. She has a lush, full voice that delivers each lyric with authority. She shows her guts and confidence by recording this album solo. The voice, the guitar, the songs… it’s all you need. Deming writes solid “kitchen table” songs. That is, they are fully realized with just a guitar and a passion to deliver a message. And the title, “Beautifully Scarred”, is a brilliant ribbon with which to tie together these songs of love, obsession, betrayal, insecurity, hurt and healing. Deming is well worth checking out!
Hit Picks: “Talk Me Down” and “How Many Times”

“Song craftsmanship that is elegant, alluring and atmospheric all at the same time. It’s amazing how a singer/songwriter who is so revealing and candid, so potent and REAL, can deliver the goods with such gentleness and warmth. Better still, her voice quality is innately sublime. This one should hit a lot of folks right between the ears.”

“Anne’s voice cannot be contained in one little cd. We recommend you see her live performance.”
